The challenge
Hawaiian Host wanted to refresh their Sanrio Hello Kitty omiyage (souvenir) box. Hawaiian Host is the original chocolate covered macadamia candy and is the largest manufacturer of chocolate covered macadamias in the world.
The process
The process started with a few moodboards and looking at current Sanrio merchandise featuring their poster child, Hello Kitty. Visual research did not only include Sanrio branded candies, but also purses, fabrics, pencils, and other merchandise. After research, a few sketches for box concepts were created, in many different styles, including patterns and hand painted watercolors.
The final result
Hawaiian Host liked the water color concept and decided to print two different box arts. Watercolor backgrounds were hand painted and vectorized by me. The 2oz. boxes are sold throughout stores all across the state of Hawaii and can be found in Asian grocery stores on the west coast.
